The Maryanne Martin Hospital Project

MAryanne Martin Hospital image

Completed to Stage 3 in July 2011, this learning resource is receiving wide acclaim for its innovative and engaging approach to Nurse Education.  At the heart of eLearn Australia's design is the educational theory of Authentic Learning.  First put forward in the late 1990s and then further developed by Australian Education academics Jan Herrington and Ron Oliver and Tom Reeves of the University of Georgia USA, this approach encourages the use of learning taks, environemnts and problems that are authentic to the learner in their studies and in their work.

Originally developed as a solution for student nurses living and working in the Kimberley and Pilbara Regions of Western Australia, the Maryanne Martin Project was aimed at developing a virtual community hospital that would provide learners with patient case studies, background nursing theory and learning resources that are essential to Nurse Education and Nursing practice.  It reflects the hospital environment and the day to day tasks and problems faced by enrolled and registered nurses.

The hspotial now has a general ward, palliative care ward, operating theatre, pre-and post-operative rooms and dispensary.
